The Victoria Peak, Top of Hong Kong

We decided to go to the Peak after we checked in the place we had booked through Airbnb (Airbnb 2 bedroom apartment at Temple Street). Standing at 552 meters above sea level, Victoria Peak is the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island. It has been almost universally called simply “The Peak” ever since Hong Kong’s early days when it was used as a signaling post. For more than a century, Victoria Peak has witnessed Hong Kong’s transformation. Along with Hong Kong’s development into an international metropolis, the Peak has become a world renowned tourist hot spot, well known for its many attractions such as the Peak Tram, Lions Pavilion, Victoria Peak Garden and Mount Austin Playground, which have been popular among both locals and visitors.

The Peak Tram

The Peak Tram

The Peak Tram, one of the world’s oldest and most famous funicular railways, rises to 396 meters above sea level, has served Hong Kong since 1888. The Peak tram is arguably the most enduring emblem of Hong Kong’s unique past. It has seen war, been featured on films and television and played host to numerous dignitaries. If you are thinking to take the Peak tram to the Peak, forget about it unless you are willing to queue for an hour or more. FYI, it is very hard to get a Taxi at the Peak Tram Lower Terminus entrance. We waited more than half an hour there and many people just grabbed the Taxi without queuing. We then walked to the other side, there was a Taxi stand there and more taxis stop by. Taxi fee from the Peak Tram Lower Terminus to the top cost us HKD $45.5.
