As always, taking a taxi is the most convenient way for newcomers to travel around a city. However, everybody in Hong Kong has a taxi driver story. The taxis can be difficult to hail from the street as they cannot just stop anywhere. It is easy to catch a taxi during sunny days, but situations can be very nasty on rainy days and around 4pm on weekdays when drivers normally change shifts. In my opinion, taking MTR (Mass Transit Railway – rapid transit railway system that spans almost the entire Hong Kong) is easier and cheaper especially if you are travelling in less than five people. You can either use a transportation card or travel pass or just a single ticket. Below is some information about the Hong Kong MTR tickets, travel pass and fare I gathered while travelling in Hong Kong with my family. I hope it is helpful.
