I was very happy yesterday because my plan was quite successful – Bangkok – Maeklong Railway Market – Amphawa Floating Market – Bangkok. I spent less than 300 Baht on transport for this one day trip, yeah!
How to go Maeklong Railway Market
You can take van from Victory Monument to Maeklong to see the railway market. Take BTS SkyTrain Sukhumvit Line and get off at Victory Monument Station (N3), Exit 4. There are many Van stations there, don’t worry, you’ll see it. I took the first one with many counters. At the van station, you can buy the ticket at counter 1 written Maekong 70 Baht, Amphawa 80 Baht and Damnoen 90 Baht. Just tell the ticket seller where you want to go. The van took about 90 minutes to reach Maeklong. I think you can visit Maeklong, Amphawa and Damnoen these three places in one day if you go early. I woke up late at 8 am something and I waited my sister until 9 am something. We took train to Victory Monument station, bought van tickets etc. reached Maeklong almost 12 pm. We missed the second train which was the 11.30 pm. We have to wait until 3.30 pm for the next train. We spent few hours boringly there. We walked around Maeklong town but there was nothing interesting there. There were just some temples and schools. It’s a very small town. However, we found something delicious there. I don’t know what that is, it’s like pan-fried glutinous rice cakes sprinkled with sugar, peanuts and sesame.
Maeklong Train Schedule
Started in 1984, the market lines a railway track. The train runs through the market just before reaching (or departing from) the Maeklong station three times a day at 8.30 am, 11.30 am and 3.30 pm. The train pretty much runs in schedule. It’s really amazing to see the market stalls clear the railway tracks when the train arrives at the station and upon the train leaving the station. Be careful while walking the railroad, don’t step on people’s things. I took Songthaew from Maeklong to Amphawa (only 8 Baht). Is it easy to take Songthaew from Maeklong to Amphawa? It will be a piece of cake. I asked the hotel receptionist about how to go Amphawa from Maeklong. He told me that we could take Tuk Tuk too but it will cost about 80 to 100 Baht. I will continue to write about my journey to Amphawa Floating Market in the next entry.
